History of the Paris 2 Wreck
Paris 2 was a French warship sunk by Ottoman coastal artillery during World War I in 1916-1917. During the war, the French navy conducted reconnaissance and offensive operations along the Ottoman coastline. However, Paris 2 was heavily damaged by intense artillery fire and eventually sank into the depths of the Mediterranean.
The ship, measuring approximately 50 meters in length, has remained underwater since that day, becoming a fascinating time capsule for divers.
Diving Experience at Paris 2 Wreck
The wreck lies at a depth of 21 to 32 meters, making it suitable for Advanced Open Water (AOWD) certified divers. Not allowing for the Open Water Divers.
What You Can See While Diving:
• Ship’s Hull: The main structure is largely intact, allowing for a comprehensive exploration.
• Cannon and Ammunition Remains: Some war remnants can still be found around the site.
• Captain’s Cabin: Though partially collapsed, it remains an intriguing area for divers.
Marine Life at the Wreck
Over the years, Paris 2 has become a natural habitat for various marine species. While diving, you can encounter lionfish, moray eels, groupers, octopuses, shrimps, and occasionally barracudas.
Lionfish, in particular, are commonly seen around the wreck, adding a vibrant touch to the site’s rich ecosystem.
